Mysterious Rabbit Puppet Army Summer Tour

Our lovable comrades of the Mysterious Rabbit Puppet Army, whose work we’ve shared here before, are embarking on a month-long tour presenting their newest production, “Donny Quixote!” The show offers a scathing critique of “green” capitalism and technologya a humorous adaptation of the story of Don Quixote. MRPA will offer two other feature performances as well, alongside a wide range of literature relating to the content of the shows.

This tour is intended to help build a culture of ecological resistance that embraces a diversity of tactics, including direct action. The narratives debunk the false solutions that capitalists propose in response to the ongoing ecological crisis.

Protest At the Governor’s Mansion: Tell Her to VETO the Fracking Bill SB820

From Croatan Earth First!

SB 820, the fracking bill, passed in the general assembly this week, which means now only the governor needs to sign it for fracking to begin in 2014.  Governor Perdue has already flipped sides once.  She had vetoed an earlier bill, the 709 Energy Jobs Act, which would have fast tracked fracking and offshore drilling.  However, soon after she was flown to Pennsylvania on our tax money to schmooze with Shell Oil and returned pro-fracking.  Just this past week the U.S. Geological Survey released a study finding that there is only 2 years worth of gas in our state, and that only half of that could possibly be collected.  In other words, we are risking our water supply and clean air, and trading that for only one year’s worth of natural gas to profit oil companies, and they can even export that gas to other places.  Property law in North Carolina even states that private land can be taken by eminent domain for these companies to use.  A few democrats and republicans who had previously supported fracking voted against the bill this, but it was not enough to stop the rest of the general assembly who are solidly in the pockets of corporations.  We cannot let this happen without putting up a fight! Occupy is organizing a response to the seizing of our communities air and water this Monday at the Governor’s Mansion in Raleigh Monday June 18th at 6 p.m. located at 200 N. Blount St.  Help spread the word!

March Against Fracking Downtown Raleigh, Saturday, May 19th

From Don’t Frack NC

Join us in the capital to march through downtown Raleigh and raise awareness about the resistance to fracking in North Carolina.  We’ll be assembling near Nash Square around 11:30 a.m. and  around 12 noon marching to the Legislative Building at 16 West Jones Street.

We encourage folks to bring musical instruments: drums, violins, trumpets, colorful banners and signs, puppets… anything that will make this fun.  The march is family friendly and fully permitted.

If your group would like to officially sign onto the march as a co-sponsor contact us at dontfracknc@riseup.net or call 919-200-0061 for more details.  We encourage everyone to share this event on their facebook or on listserves they are on.  This date is within the legislative session that begins in May where legislators plan on disregarding public outcry by legalizing fracking and wastewater injection in our state.

It’s time to let them know we won’t let this happen here.  See you in the streets!

This event is also co-sponsored by Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League & Cumnock Preservation Association.
