Sentencing Statement

I write this statement after pleading guilty to state charges against me for my participation in an organized direct action taken against a group of white supremacists in May of 2012. I would like to share my thoughts about this action. First, major thanks and love to my friends and family who have supported me, for my amazing partner who kept me sane, my band for letting loose and my lawyer Sara Garber who has been ridiculously helpful in fighting this case with me.
While Chicago was in rebellion against the western military super-alliance NATO summit in 2012, a small group of racists organized their own ‘white nationalist economic summit’ in the nearby suburb of Tinley Park. They booked a restaurant to hold a luncheon under the guise of the “Illinois European Heritage Association.” For over six months this event was promoted on Stormfront.org, a very popular online forum where racists and neo-nazis converse. Being in a prolonged state of resistance against racism, this summit became known to organized anti-fascists throughout the Midwest. Through research, they had ascertained the time, location, and even some identities of the attendees of this meeting, some of whom were already known as being members of white supremacist groups such as the KKK, National Socialist Movement and Council of Conservative Citizens. Upon becoming aware of this  information, myself and others decided to confront the fascists at their meeting. A righteous melee ensued, many of the ten white supremacists were injured, and we left the scene in less than two minutes.

New Campaign: Welcome Home Cody Lee Sutherlin (Tinley Park Five)

support-your-local-antifa-7From New York City Anarchist Black Cross

Cody Lee Sutherlin of the Tinley Park 5 is due to be released from prison in June. So Bloomington ABC, NYC ABC, and Sacramento Prisoner Support have launched a campaign to start a release fund for Cody Lee.

From j.mp/CodyLee:
“In May 2012 five antifascists were arrested and, in early 2013, took non-cooperating plea deals for 3 felonies each for taking part in emphatically stopping a meeting of white supremacists organizing under the guise of the Illinois European Heritage Association at a restaurant in Tinley Park, Illinois. For more information, see tinleyparkfive.wordpress.com.

Cody Lee Sutherlin is the third of the five to be released, rejoining us in early June. Bloomington ABC, NYC ABC, and Sacramento Prisoner Support have launched a campaign to start a release fund for Cody Lee. By the time Cody Lee is released he’ll have been locked up for just over two years, will have a felony record, and certain things just won’t be the same. Let’s help him make a smooth transition! Let’s raise some money and secure a release fund that will welcome him upon his release. Your donations will help Cody pay bills and costs of living while he looks for a job; buy a phone; and pay for license plates and insurance for his bike.”

Please remember that prisoner support doesn’t end when a comrade is released. Through halfway houses, supervised release, parole, or probation, there is usually state supervision beyond the initial sentence. Also, prison is traumatic. And of course there is the stigma of being a former prisoner that effects nearly every aspect of one’s life. All of this adds up to the less obvious, but equally necessary, support needed when our loved ones come home. Donate to your ability and show an anti-fascist comrade how we welcome folks home. Alex Stuck, of the Tinley Park 5, Paroled

Well, Some of you may already know by now but Alex Stuck of the Tinley Park Five was paroled on Friday, November 1st.  We’re including a statement from Alex below.
Sorry it’s taken me so long to put this out. I’ve been working on my transition back in to the world and so far everyone has been great with helping me out with everything. I kinda feel like a new born, HA. Anyway, I just wanted to write something and post it up for everyone to see that I’m out now and am doing ok. Most of all I want to say thank you to everyone for helping me with everything during my incarceration.
It’s still so very surreal. Prison was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but people like all of you who exist with your endless love: I couldn’t have done any of this without you. I would also like to thank you for all the help you’ve been giving my four friends during their stint in Dante’s Inferno. It’s really hard to put into words how much all of you mean to me. Because of you I’ve been able to survive and stay strong. Your solidarity continues to leave me
speechless. (more…)
