UNC Radical Rush 2014: The First Wave of Events

rrFrom Radical Rush Week

UNC Radical Rush 2014 is a week of events (9/2 to 9/9) celebrating the possibilities for liberation and political struggle in the UNC community.

We need to find each other.

Did you come to UNC hoping to fight oppression? Do you dream that this university would be a space against capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, homophobia, and ecocide?  Are you looking for the on-campus resources that will connect you with the struggle against drones, surveillance, empire, deportation, austerity, sweatshops and war?
Did you come to UNC hoping to build worlds that blossom and sustain diversity? Are you hoping to build spaces where people can speak justice, and do just things together? What beautiful thing would you build as you build a community?

Radical Rush is an experiment in connecting communities with one another, and people with communities.

Let’s make the UNC campus a more vibrant space of solidarity, struggle and social justice.

Announcing the Fifth Annual Carrboro Anarchist Book Fair!

The fifth annual Carrboro Anarchist Book Fair will take place the weekend of November 22, 2014 in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, North Carolina. Don’t miss one of the Southeast’s most exciting educational and agitational events!

In the first four years of its existence, the Carrboro Anarchist Book Fair has coincided with a higher proportion of nationally reported riots and building occupations than any other book fair worldwide. This book fair is the ideal occasion to strike back against murderous white supremacist policing, create an anti-capitalist autonomous zone, or just read a lot of great books and ‘zines.

This will be an especially busy autumn for central NC. On October 4, Carrboro’s monthly Really Really Free Market will celebrate its ten-year anniversary with a massive free festival. Meanwhile, our decades-running community center, Internationalist Books, is moving from Chapel Hill to a new and improved location in Carrboro…making this the first ever Carrboro Anarchist Book Fair to actually hold events in Carrboro! Hello Friends and Comrades,

1) Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for August. As always, please post this poster publicly and/or use it to start a card writing night of your own.

2) Celebrate the Ten-Year Anniversary of the Carrboro Really Really Free Market! A wild party! The Carrboro Really Really Free Market is celebrating its ten-year anniversary with a massive festival! You’re invited for a whole weekend of really really free activities. We’re hoping comrades from around the world will join us in making this something to remember!

A clash of utopias! Come demonstrate the life you would prefer to capitalism. Set up a booth, offer a workshop, put on a performance, screen a film, carry out some dramatic action, obtain and distribute some resource no one could imagine being free. We want to see a wide range of utopian visions and ungovernable desires manifested. Rather than simply opposing what exists, reactively, we dare you to demonstrate that your alternative to competition and obedience is more nourishing, more exciting, and more fulfilling than anything the market can offer.

More info here. See you in October! (more…)

This Saturday: Carrboro Really Really Free Market

RRFM-FlyerSaturday, August 2nd

@ 2pm

@ The Carrboro Town Commons

Because there is enough for everyone

Because sharing is more fulfilling than owning

Because capitalists would rather see landfills overflow than anyone get anything for free

Because scarcity is a myth constructed to keep us at the mercy of the economy

Because a sunny day outside is better than anything money can buy

Because free trade is a contradiction of terms

Because no one should have to do without food, shelter, and togetherness

Because life should be a picnic, but it only will be if we ABOLISH CAPITALISM (more…)
