Political Prisoner Birthday Poster For November/December 2014 Is Now Available

birthdaycupHello Friends and Comrades,

1) Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for November. As always, please post this poster publicly and/or use it to start a card writing night of your own.

2)  Please help raise funds for our comrade Andy’s legal fund. On August 23rd Andy was arrested while attending a demonstration in solidarity with those protesting in Ferguson, MO following the murder of Michael Brown. While walking on the sidewalk during the protest, he was tackled to the ground and kicked by multiple officers, arrested, and non-consensually brought to the hospital for injuries that the police had inflicted. Because the police took away the bandages he had been given in the ER, he had to take care of his injuries on his own, while in jail. He has since been slapped with a large emergency room bill. He was held for around 28 hours with little food or water, and was subject to intimidation and threats of multiple felony charges and federal involvement. Instances like this are not unusual.  In fact, these circumstances – violent arrests, legal threats, withholding medical treatment and intimidation – are common in suppression of dissent against police brutality. Andy now faces six misdemeanor charges, for which the DA’s office has already demanded at least $1,500 in damage.

3) Political Prisoner Tom Manning is scheduled to see the US Parole Board in November. In a recent letter he asks that people write letters supporting his release on parole. He writes “so if folks can just write their own letters expressing each ones ideas rather than all of them sounding like they read a form letter – so that they put their own voice down on paper.”

Please write a letter to support Tom! (more…)

Political Prisoner Birthday Poster For September 2014 Is Now Available

birthday cakeHello Friends and Comrades,

1) Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for September. As always, please post this poster publicly and/or use it to start a card writing night of your own.

2) A bail and legal fund has been established to support the 43 or so people who have been arrested during the initial anti-police demonstrations in Ferguson, Mo. Please spread the word widely and help get some money together to get these people out.

All funds collected will be used to support those arrested during the demonstrations–their bail money, fines, legal funds, or other related expenses. In the unlikely event that there are additional funds, they will be used to support people resisting police repression and police violence in the future. Thank you.

For more information on what’s been going on in Ferguson you can check out these articles on our blog.

Luke Needs Our Help!

judgepostcard-copy judgepostcard-copy2From Let Luke Go

At sentencing, Judge Markle added the condition of criminal banishment to Luke’s probation.  For all eight years of his probation, Luke will be exiled from the state of Georgia, with the exception of one judicial district – that of Screven county, and in turn, his family and closest friends.  For more information on criminal banishment and the unusual nature of its inclusion in Luke’s sentence click here.

All of Luke’s supporters are encouraged to print and fill out one of these postcards, or hand write their own, and mail them to Judge Markle, demanding that he remove the condition of banishment from Luke’s probation.

You can also download the postcard here.

Political Prisoner Birthday Poster For June 2014 Is Now Available

cupcake@Hello Friends and Comrades,

1) Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for June. As always, please post this poster publicly and/or use it to start a card writing night of your own.

2) Seven prisoners at Polk CI in Butner, NC have started a hunger strike to protest their conditions. According to prisoners in the facility, additional men have been joining the strike since that first day. The strike was initiated in part by prisoners who were transferred out of Central Prison, following a class action lawsuit against the facility for abuse by guards in various “blind spots” around Unit One. That lawsuit has already forced the administration’s hand in videotaping any cell extractions by guards.  You can read their demands here.

Please support these men by sending mail and making phone calls to:

Frank Perry, Secretary of the Division of Prisons
4201 Mail Service Center
Raleigh, NC  27699

Sekou Kambui’s Parole Hearing Scheduled

sekouFrom Denver Anarchist Black Cross

Sekou’s long-delayed parole hearing has finally been scheduled for the 18th of June! We are making one last push for letters of support, petition signatures, and funds to get myself and another supporter (and more folks, if possible) down to Alabama for the hearing. In the state of Alabama, parole hearings are held outside of the prison, and prisoners cannot attend. Supporters, however, can pack these hearings, and it would be of great help to Sekou to have vocal support there.

Below is the link to an EverRibbon page set up by a fellow Sekou supporter in Colorado. If there’s any money you can donate, please do so here:

And again, please continue to send in letters of support for Sekou’s release, addressed to:
Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles
301 South Ripley Street
PO Box 302405
Montgomery, Al 36130-2405
Chairman Clifford Walker
Associate Members Robert P. Longshore and William W. Wynne Jr.
Please send copies (and/or originals) of all letters to:
Aaron Schaefer
C/O DABC
P.O. Box 11236
Denver, CO 80211
Support letters and hard copies of the petition will be hand-delivered to the parole board on the 18th.
