For all humans locked up and their efforts to resist
Against prisons and the world that creates them

For the 4th year in a row, the hundreds of people held captive inside Durham jail — who are getting just two sandwiches for dinner and are freezing in their cells with no heat — will hear us on the outside and know that they are not alone and that their struggles will not be forgotten in 2015.

Call to Action in Support of the Zapatistas

viva ezln** MAS ABAJO ESTA EN ESPAÑOL** (a version in spanish can be found below)

Week of Action: May 18-24 (Day of Remembrance May 24)

Justice for Galeano; stop the war against the Zapatista communities!

STATEMENT:

Summary of recent events:
On May 2, 2014, in the Zapatista territory of La Realidad, Chiapas, Mexico, the group CIOAC-H, planned and executed a paramilitary attack on unarmed Zapatista civilians. An autonomous Zapatista school and clinic was destroyed, 15 people were ambushed and injured and Jose Luis Solis Lopez (Galeano), teacher at the Zapatista Little School, was murdered. The mainstream media is falsely reporting this attack on the Zapatistas as an intra-community confrontation, but in fact this attack is the result of a long-term counterinsurgency strategy promoted by the Mexican government.

Given the experience of the 1997 massacre at Acteal, we are concerned about the mounting paramilitary activity against Zapatista bases of support. It is clear that if we do not take action now, the current situation in Chiapas may also lead to an even more tragic end.

Why this matters to us:
Since 1994, the Zapatistas have shown us the bankruptcy of the world that dominates us and, most importantly, the ability to organize ourselves into self-determining communities autonomous from the political class and capitalism. It is this capacity to show that another world is possible in the here and now, one not rooted in exploitation, dispossession, repression and de-valorization, but rather in liberty, democracy and justice, that has inspired us all. An attack on the Zapatistas is an attack on the other world that we have all tried to build along with them for the past 20 years.  (more…)

This New Year’s Eve, show prisoners your love and rage!

nye-noise-demo-drum-12-31-2011 December 31st, 7:30pm at the jail in downtown Durham, 217 S. Mangum St.

A ban on pencils in cells. A one-hour decrease in rec time, unexplained. C.O Brutality covered up. An inmate death barely mentioned. Arbitrary rules on visitor IDs. And all of this on top of the usual: innutritious food, exorbitant phone and commissary prices, medical inattention and long detentions without court appearances.

But many prisoners at the Durham jail haven’t been taking this repression sitting down, and in fact have come together in the past year to protest these conditions through various means, including petitions, slow downs, and by writing about their experiences (check out: amplifyvoices.com). Please come to show your support and solidarity with them and all prisoners and your commitment to doing what you can to tear down the walls in 2014. (more…)

Global Noise Demo for Prisoner Solidarity: New Year’s Eve 2013/14

canibalInside and Outside Prisons, Jails, & Detention Centers around the World

from Anarchist News

This event is inspired by the North American call out for a day of action against prisons in the New Year of 2010/2011, which happened again in 2011/2012 and again last year, & remains relevantly unchanged.

Noise demos outside of prisons in some countries are a continuing tradition. A way of expressing solidarity for people imprisoned during the New Year, remembering those held captive by the state. A noise demo breaks the isolation and alienation of the cells our enemies create, but it does not have to stop at that. (more…)

Bandung, Indonesia: ELF Torch Police and Military Bulletproof Vest Manufacturing Plant

elfbulletproofvestfactoryfrom 325

Communique [translation – original text here]:

The police are the enemy. This is our final statement that is not negotiable. Police are not born to be friends, as individuals and as an institution, and can not be excluded from the list of enemies that must be addressed by for our attacks. As an institution and as individuals, the police goal is to protect civilization and the exploitation it is doing to the earth.

The objective of the police -as well as the other repressive instruments- is to secure the money and investment interests for the sake of the anthropocentric way of life as it is today. The police are not for representing our interests. Instead, the police are one of the thousands of faces of outrage alive today. Police must be attacked, as hard as possible.

For their loyal services as guard dogs for the domestication of life, they are equipped with combat equipment that is used against free will and the aspirations of wildlife where the judiciary and the rule of law are totally absent. They are equipped with weapons, armor and bulletproof vests. The devices are manufactured so that the pigs can act with confidence in the face of the war that is addressed to their masters. (more…)

October 25th: International Day of Action to Move Marie

masonFrom MoveMarie.com

October 25th has been set as the International Day of Action to Move Marie. People from across the world will be joining together to take action to get Marie moved out of FMC Carswell.

on October 21st

* Organize an event such as a film screening, benefit show, teach-in,
art show, letter writing party, or other creative action

About the Campaign

After being sentenced to the disproportionately long prison sentence of 22 years for the actions she carried out with the Earth Liberation Front, Marie’s persecution by the government still continues. Marie Mason’s 51st birthday is coming up on January 26, 2013. We are asking that folks hold events for Marie around her birthday as part of what will be an annual time to celebrate her life and keep her spirits up while she remains imprisoned.

We know that the mid-winter holidays are a busy time for everyone, but they are a sad time for the prisoners who remain inside – and everyone wants some cheer on their birthday! So we hope that folks can find time to plan a small event for Marie, such as a letter-writing or birthday party. (If time permits, we recommend that you might want to hold letter writings a week or more earlier so the cards can reach her before the 26th.)
Some people are confused about Marie’s mail situation. It is true that she can only send letters to a pre-approved list of 100 people. However, she can receive letters from anyone and so she will be able to receive all these birthday wishes. (Please be sure that the sender’s first and last name are on the envelope, that letters are all in English – she can receive letters in other languages but will be delayed – and that cards do not have glitter or other things added to them.) Bring Alex Home for Christmas!

From Ideas & Actionalejandrotorres

On November 14th, Alejandro Torres was arrested along with five others in Pasadena at a Zapatista solidarity action outside of a speech by Vicente Fox, the ex-president of Mexico. Now more than a month after his arrest he is still in jail. Ever since being hauled away by the police with his comrades that night, Alex has been caged in jail for the single crime of being far too poor to afford the extravagant $100,000 bail that the judge has set for him. Help us bail Alex out of jail so that he can spend Christmas with his family and join us on the outside so that we can fight this case of political repression together! We’ve managed to arrange an agreement with a bail bondsman to bail Alex out for $3,000 instead of the unreachable $10,000 that would normally be required. We think that we can get scrape together the money for this if enough comrades are generous and pitch in.

Prison has a long history within capital, being one of the most archaic forms of prolonged torture and punishment. It has been used to kill some slowly and torture those unwanted – delinquents to the reigning order – who have no need of fitting within the predetermined mold of society. (more…)
