Durham Herald Sun: Armory vandalized by protesters claiming support for Ferguson

Durham Anarchists Vandalize National Guard Armory in Solidarity with Missouri Rebels

Reposted From Anarchist News

On the morning of October 17th, the National Guard Armory in Durham was the target of vandalism intended to disrupt weekend operations at the facility.

We glued five different sets of locks in order to prevent the entry or exit of vehicles from the fenced lot, chained the front doors shut, and left a message on the brick wall on the front of the building reading, “Disobey orders. Solidarity with Missouri Rebels. Fuck the Police.”

This simple act was done in solidarity with all who struggle against police harassment and occupation of their neighborhoods, and in particular with those insurgents in St. Louis and Ferguson, whose historic rebellion resulted in a National Guard occupation of their town. They remind us that when police murder the poor and people of color, the proper reaction is to riot.

We’re aware that our act is unlikely to cause major disruption at this facility. It is not a subsitute for other kinds of antagonism and combative struggle. Nonetheless, we see it as a gesture towards that time when such a facility provides crucial vehicles and arms to crush popular uprisings. If the future looks like civil war, let’s learn the terrain now rather than later.

To those who train at this facility, we would encourage you to think now about what it would mean to fire on your own neighbors and community members. Some of the most courageous soldiers in history have been those who disobeyed orders and refused to squash a popular rebellion. How will you be remembered when that time comes? Which side are you on? If it was your son or daughter murdered by the cops, what side then?

In defiance and fury,

Ann Hansen is a former member of Direct Action, an underground anarchist group active in the 1980s, who presently lives as a writer, farmer and public speaker in the Kingston area. On August 3, 2012, Ann was arrested and had her parole suspended for ‘unauthorized associations and political activity’ in the context of growing anti-prison organizing in Kingston, Canada’s prison capital. Ann, with the advice of her lawyer, chose to not publicize her arrest until after her parole hearing. On October 30,the Parole Board canceled her parole suspension and released her on stricter conditions. This is her first public statement regarding her arrest and imprisonment.

Raleigh, NC: Seven Arrested in Major Take Back the Land Action

From Earth First Newswire

On Monday, April 9th, over 30 community participants entered the house of a Raleigh, NC, family that has been illegally foreclosed on, and refused to leave as an act of civil disobedience.

The family has bravely chosen to fight eviction and foreclosure and is requesting community support. Evidence of robo-signing by the bank, which is a fraud, has been uncovered and the entire foreclosure process is under attorney review.

A coalition coordinating with Max Rameau of Take Back the Land and including; Mortgage Fraud NC, Occupy Raleigh, Save Our Homes and Occupy Greensboro participated in yesterday’s public protest and home defense. The objectives of this action were: to demand that Nicole and her family be allowed to reclaim possession of their home; to call for a NATIONAL MORATORIUM on all foreclosures, evictions, and utility shut-offs; to demand that banks negotiate loan modifications that include principal reduction; to call for the creation of a community land trust.

Another 10 families in this predominantly African-American neighborhood are facing similarly illegal foreclosure and eviction. This foreclosure eviction protest is one of a growing movement across the country. (more…)
