Political Prisoner Birthday Poster For May 2016 Is Now Available

May Political Prisoner Birthday Cake

Hello Friends and Comrades,

  1. Happy belated May Day!
  2. Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for May.(11″x17″ PDF, 502KB) Print it out and plaster your community, both in commemoration of these freedom fighters and to advertise locally for a political prisoner letter writing night. Get together with some friends in your town to send birthday cards to these fighters in our struggle. It’s an easy way to help remind them that they aren’t forgotten. If you make one, remember—don’t use anything like white-out, stickers, tape or glitter on it. We also recommend that you put a return name and address and their name and prisoner number on the card, lest the authorities “lose” the envelope and forget where it is going. If you would like to add a birthday or sign up for our poster mailing list (not a listserv, one email per month), or if you would like to contribute in another way to increasing the profile of US political prisoners, email us at ppbirthday@riseup.net.
  3. A special thank you to the designers of this month’s poster. Designers are constantly bombarded with requests to work their trade for free, for publicity, or for a cause, and every month the PPBD Posters project relies on their generosity of time, skill and devotion to the cause of prison abolition.
  4. If you haven’t already started preparations for this year’s International Day of Solidarity with Long-Term Anarchist Prisoners on June 11th, now is the perfect time to start.

    Rise, like lions after slumber
    In unvanquishable number!
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you:
    Ye are many—they are few!

  5. Do you need help advertising for your local Political Prisoner Letter Writing Night? Are you interested in distributing physical copies of the poster? Write to us and let’s find a way to get physical copies of our poster to you: ppbirthday@riseup.net
  6. Keep your eyes on the Support Prisoner Resistance Blog for updates on prisoner strikes in Texas and Alabama, as well as much more.
  7. Be sure to check out the latest Political Prisoner/Prisoner Of War every-other week update (PDF, 392KB) by the NYC-Anarchist Black Cross. There are lots of important updates on many political prisoners. This one includes updates on Barrett Brown, Leonard Peltier, Jared Chase, and more.

Remember: They are in there for us, we are out here for them!

Fellow Workers: Remember! We are in here for you, you are out there for us!

Rolling Stone Article on the FBI’s Entrapment of Occupy Cleveland Activists

From Green Is The New Red

The latest issue of Rolling Stone has an article by Sabrina Rubin Erdely about the FBI’s entrapment of five activists associated with Occupy Cleveland for a plot to blow up a bridge. As I’ve written previously, the case was carefully coordinated by the FBI; undercover FBI agents helped shape the “plot,” offered advice on how and where to use explosives, and sold explosives to the activists. Cleveland 4: Fight continues after 3 take non-cooperating plea deals

From Cleveland 4 support:

Cleveland 4 Continue Fight for Justice in Entrapment Case After Guilty Pleas

This Wednesday, three of the four young men known as the “Cleveland 4,” Brandon Baxter, Doug Wright and Connor Stevens, entered into a non-cooperating plea agreement for all counts of the charges brought against them, but not to the government’s terrorism enhancement. The Cleveland 4 Support Committee continues to support Brandon, Doug, Connor and Josh during this time.

The sentencing for these three will not occur until after a hearing scheduled for November 5th and 6th. at which point Brandon, Doug and Connor will still have the opportunity to present evidence in court regarding unlawful entrapment actions by the FBI. Their sentence could range from five years to three lifetimes, with the defense and prosecution differing over the how federal sentencing guidelines would apply. (more…)

Update on the Cleveland 5

After almost two months of imprisonment, repression and an intense campaign of media demonization, the Cleveland five remain strong and solid in their refusal to cooperate with the FBI.They also remain in desperate need of our support. They are getting very little contact from the outside world and four of the five defendants are being represented by public defenders. Although right now these four say they are happy with their lawyers, they also have no access to the funds necessary to offer them the legal options they so desperately need right now. We all know that “justice” basically means how much money you have. (more…)

FBI Supplied the Anarchist “Terrorists” Arrested in May Day Plot

From Green Is The New Red

As the Occupy movement carries out massive May Day protests around the country, the FBI Joint Terrorism Task force is trumpeting the arrest of “self-proclaimed anarchists” and “terrorists” who allegedly conspired to destroy a bridge in Ohio. Integral to the development and advancement of this plot, however, were FBI agents themselves and an informant with a drug and robbery record.

Douglas L. Wright, 26; Brandon L. Baxter, 20; and Anthony Hayne, 35, Connor C. Stevens, 20, and Joshua S. Stafford, 23, were arrested by the FBI on April 30, just in time to make the announcement as the nation turns its attention to May Day protests.

The affidavit reveals a plot by the FBI that continues a pattern of behavior in “terrorism” investigations against political activists. Most importantly, undercover FBI agents helped shape the “plot,” offered advice on how and where to use explosives, and allegedly sold explosives to the activists. (more…)
