cake

Hello Friends and Comrades,

1) Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for September. As always, please post this poster publicly and/or use it to start a card writing night of your own.

2) We’ve put the text online of our new zine How To Start A Prison Books Collective. We hope that this humble contribution will help other prison books groups get started and expand the important work of sending political, legal, and self-educational resources to prisoners. You can find the text here.

3) The Prison Ecology Project has extended its online fundraiser. They are creating tools to dismantle toxic prisons. So far, they are the only group focused on the intersection of environment and mass incarceration. Currently they are building a database of the five thousand prisons and jails around the country, finding the weak points in the environmental realm, and providing tools to organize locally. You can donate here.

Political Prisoner Birthday Poster For June 2015 Is Now Available

Hello Friends and Comrades,

1) Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for June. As always, please post this poster publicly and/or use it to start a card writing night of your own.

2) June 11th is the international day of solidarity with Marius Mason, and all long-term anarchist prisoners. There’s still time to organize something in your town. You can find more info on organizing an event and what has happened in previous years here.

3) Sekou Kambui spent forty years behind bars as a political prisoner, and now he needs our help!

The former Panther, CORE, and SCLC member was diagnosed with liver cancer shortly after his release, and has been in and out of the hospital for cancer treatment as well as other health problems, including severe edema in his leg. The edema requires almost weekly trips to the hospital to have fluid drained from his leg, an expense in time and money he can’t afford. Though chemotherapy has produced encouraging results so far, the medical bills keep piling up. Despite his poor health, Sekou has continued his work with the organization he founded in prison, the Social Consciousness Development Group, and has continued to speak publicly on behalf of U.S. Political Prisoners. Now he needs our support to get through the trying times ahead.

Help Sekou Kambui continue his long fight for justice in good health! Donate here.

4) Prison Legal News recently celebrated its 25th year. Check out this interview with their editor Paul Wright drawing connections between environmental movements and anti-prison movements.

5) Be sure to check out the latest Political Prisoner/Prisoner Of  War every-other week update by the  NYC-Anarchist Black Cross. There are lots of important updates on many political prisoners.

Hello Friends and Comrades,

1) Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for August. As always, please post this poster publicly and/or use it to start a card writing night of your own.

2) Celebrate the Ten-Year Anniversary of the Carrboro Really Really Free Market! A wild party! The Carrboro Really Really Free Market is celebrating its ten-year anniversary with a massive festival! You’re invited for a whole weekend of really really free activities. We’re hoping comrades from around the world will join us in making this something to remember!

A clash of utopias! Come demonstrate the life you would prefer to capitalism. Set up a booth, offer a workshop, put on a performance, screen a film, carry out some dramatic action, obtain and distribute some resource no one could imagine being free. We want to see a wide range of utopian visions and ungovernable desires manifested. Rather than simply opposing what exists, reactively, we dare you to demonstrate that your alternative to competition and obedience is more nourishing, more exciting, and more fulfilling than anything the market can offer.

More info here. See you in October! (more…)

cupcake@Hello Friends and Comrades,

1) Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for June. As always, please post this poster publicly and/or use it to start a card writing night of your own.

2) Seven prisoners at Polk CI in Butner, NC have started a hunger strike to protest their conditions. According to prisoners in the facility, additional men have been joining the strike since that first day. The strike was initiated in part by prisoners who were transferred out of Central Prison, following a class action lawsuit against the facility for abuse by guards in various “blind spots” around Unit One. That lawsuit has already forced the administration’s hand in videotaping any cell extractions by guards.  You can read their demands here.

Please support these men by sending mail and making phone calls to:

happy_birthday_black_n_redHello Friends and Comrades,

1) Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for April. As always, please post this poster publicly and/or use it to start a card writing night of your own.

2) Our hearts are overflowing with joy that Eddie Conway is not included in this April’s Birthday Poster. Eddie was freed at the beginning of march. You can check out this interview he did on the day after his release.

3) A new zine, Unforgiving and Inconsolable: Durham Against the Police is now available for download and printing. The zine compiles writings released in the heat of battle over the last few months, as three separate marches protesting the police detention and murder of Chuy Huerta brought the town’s distrust and anger with its police to the fore. New relationships were made while new ground was broken, which will hopefully continue as people continue to assemble and reflect upon the past few months.

This Wednesday: Political Prisoner Letter Writing Night!

micatsWednesday, February 12th
@ 7pm
@ Internationalist Books
405 W. Franklin St. in Chapel Hill

The Internationalist Prison Books Collective brings you this month’s Political Prisoner Letter Writing Night!

Write letters and birthday cards to political prisoners whose birthdays fall during the month of February.

Bring snacks and money to help with postage!

Like every month, we’ll also have addresses and updates to write to recently incarcerated or moved political prisoners as well as those with birthdays. This month, we’ll be writing to Vicci, Lisa and Barb – the three brave MI CATS activists just convicted for their actions defending their communities against Enbridge’s tar sands pipeline. Learn more at http://www.michigancats.org/free-the-felines.

Letter writing is an easy way to let these people know they aren’t forgotten. If you can’t make it to the letter writing night then please send a birthday card from home.
