USED BOOK SALE: August 29th-30th, the Prison Books Collective is hosting a two day book sale starting at 9am. We have hundreds and hundreds of great books that we can’t send into prisons, but that we can send home with you. Many left political titles, impossible to find underground zines and books, text books, history, literature, military manuals ,contemporary fiction, art and more. This sale is a benefit to raise funds for our enormous postage costs.

This giant book sale is a great way to get some wonderful books and support the work of the Prison Books Collective.

$5-20 donation with no one turned away for lack of funds

This will be an all ages event!

Bring a pie to offer up for the auction or cash to spend on a delectable homemade pie. Some pies will even include a chance to hang out with the pie-maker…

We’ll be writing letters to folks in women’s prisons, and folks are encouraged to bring soft cover used books they don’t need to donate to the project, particularly African American fiction and blank journals.

The benefit is for the Luke O’Donovan Support Committee. Luke is a young queer person living in Atlanta who was attacked by over 10 homophobic men on New Year’s Eve of 2013. In the process of the attack, six people, including Luke were stabbed. Luke is now facing 5 counts of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. If convicted Luke is facing up to 100 years in prison. Because the charges are so severe, Luke has amassed a large amount of legal fees. Come show your support against queerbashing and for self-defense.

Get ready for an evening filled with puppetry, dance, music, stand up, skits, a local pie auction, and more. We will also be presenting the 2014 Bob Sheldon award to this year’s recipient. All proceeds of this volunteer-run benefit will go directly to Internationalist Bookstore & Community Center so that it can continue its work as an activist and social center. Internationalist Books and Community Center has served Chapel Hill and Carrboro communities for over 30 years. To show your continued support, come out to the Internationalist Cabaret.

Today! Wednesday! “Shop For Prison Abolition”

rumorsToday (12/4) between 3pm and 7pm Rumors Boutique located at 106 c North Graham St in Chapel Hill will be donating 20% of their proceeds to the Prison Books Collective.  It’s called “Shop for a Cause” and they do it for a different group every Wednesday in December. So if you’re in the mood for some hip, pre-loved clothes, Wednesday is a great day to get them and support the work of the Prison Books Collective.
