The work is very fulfilling: you’ll read a letter from a person in prison, find some books in our collection, write a brief note back, and package them for mailing. We get book requests from NC and AL, and zine requests from all over the country. If you’d like to help, come by our workspace and we’ll get you started. There’s no need to sign up ahead of time and you can stay for all or part of the time.
Workdays are on Sundays 1-4 pm in Durham. As of March 2020, new volunteers are by appointment only. Email us at HelpOut@prisonbooks.info to schedule.
If you’re interested in helping out, but can’t make a workday, or if you have questions, drop us an email at email@example.com and we’ll try to find a way for you to plug in. We always need help organizing fundraisers and buying in-demand books.
If you’re part of a group that would like to volunteer together, email us to schedule a day: HelpOut@prisonbooks.info. We have very limited slots available for groups, and due to the size of our space, can only fit groups of 5 people or less.
Does your school, college or university have a service learning requirement? We welcome high school and college students to complete their requirements with us (We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit). We can fill out whatever paperwork is necessary. If you are interested, please talk to a member of the core group at one of our packing sessions or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
