Internationalist Bookstore & Community Center is seeking progressive and proactive individuals to apply to its Board of Directors. Every two years, the board re-elects new or previous board members to act as a decision making body for the store.
The Board has four core responsibilities: (1) Staff support and oversight, (2) fundraising, (3) representing the Internationalist in the broader community, and (4) strategic planning and visioning for the store’s future. The last of these responsibilities is shared by all members. The others are primarily the task of designated committees.
Board members commit to:
(1) A two-year term,
(2) Meetings every two months,
(3) Active service on a committee.
Committee duties vary but usually require five to ten hours of work each month.
The Board is perfect for those who do not have the time to do a weekly shift, but want to be involved in an important way. Board members should be self-motivated and ready to take on projects outside of scheduled meetings. Ideal board members have special skills or knowledge in an area that can contribute to the long-term well being of Internationalist Books and Community Center. Examples include experience in community organizing, accounting, funds development, non-profit management or law.
If you are interested, send a paragraph bio of yourself by October 5th to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include details about your interest or expertise in one of the first three core responsibilities outlined above. The elections will take place this October at the annual members meeting.
